SOFT 17

Hit. Stand. Double. Split. Burn.

SOFT 17 is a blackjack roguelike. Play real blackjack against the dealer to beat a rising chip target: every hand scores Chips × Mult, and then the dealer decides your payout. Build a run out of Charms, Tells, Systems, Cheats and Comps across eight antes, and try to stay under 21 while you do it.

The house always wins. Usually.

Features

• Real blackjack, bent. Hit, stand, double, split and burn cards against a dealer who stands on 17. Twelve hand types, from a lowly Stiff to a Triple Seven.
• 150 Charms that play off everything blackjack has: busts, soft totals, the dealer's upcard, the running count, how many cards you're holding.
• 22 Tells, 12 Systems, 18 Cheats and 32 Comps to edit your shoe, level up your hands and bend the rules.
• 28 Pit Bosses, each with a house rule of their own.
• 15 shoes to start from, 8 limits to climb, seeded runs and an endless mode.
• A smoky late-night casino in chunky pixel art: split-flap tote boards, rubber-stamp results, a brass console and a CRT glow.

Mouse and keyboard (H hit, S stand, D double, P split, B burn), or an Xbox, PlayStation or Switch Pro controller.

Installing on a Mac

SOFT 17 runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 13 Ventura or later.

1. Download and unzip SOFT17-macOS.zip, then drag SOFT 17 into your Applications folder.
2. Open it. The first time, macOS will say it can't verify the app, because small indie games like this one aren't notarized by Apple.
3. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. You only need to do this once.

Comfortable with Terminal? xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/SOFT 17.app" does the same thing.
